Another WWII RTS from the developers of Sudden Strike

blitz1.jpg

Blitzfrig is the finest WWII RTS yet. It has great graphics, Wonderful gameplay, and is just plain fun. You can choose to play as one of the three main fighting forces in WWII, the Allies, Germans, and Russians, each with seven campaignes. Each force has its own special abilities: The Geramns have their tanks, the Americans have their bombing raids, and the Russians, well, they really don't have anything that's special.

Each force has seven historical missions, with two or three random missions before a historical one. But the problem is, all of the random missions were exactly the same. But the historical missions were very enjoyable. In some of them, you are given thirty or so tanks, and get to go kick the shit out of those Nazis. Fun.

The tanks look beautiful in Blitzkrieg. But the infantry don't look as good. But that doesn't matter much-the infantry don't play an important role in Blitzkrieg; the tanks do. For most of the levels, I leave my  infantry behind and let my tanks clear the way. The infantrymen are helpless alone. They get mowed down like nobody's business.

The campaign editor is a piece of crap. I just couldn't understand it. I joined forums (where you ask questions and the other people help you), and even the guys there said to forget about it. It's hopeless. Don't buy this game if you were excited about creating your own maps and missions, because it's impossible (for me, at least).

In Blitzkrieg, you can call up air-support, but you can only call up one type of plane at a time. For example, you call up a Recon plane to scout the area to see where to order the bombers to bomb. But, after you call up the Recon plane, you have to wait for a little bar near the mini-map to load. After it is finished loading, you can call up your Bombers. And it takes a while for it to load. And, after the planes take off, you can't control them. They hust go to where you selected, do what they do best, and then go home. It can get on your nerves when the enemy has moved and you bomb a lonely strip of land, and then you have to wait for the little bar to load again. But, nonetheless, Allied bombing raids are spectacular to watch. They drop so many bombs, it makes the monitor shake. I mean, the small village you selected to be destroyed has been completely decimated. Which is another great feature in Blitzkrieg. Everything is destrucable. Which makes blowing things up so much fun.

To me, this game felt as if it ended too soon. But, Blitzkrieg is a great game, the finest WWII RTS game to date. Its campainge editor could have been  much easier, and that at least could have added some more missions. But oh well, nothing's perfect now, is it?

Pros: Missions can be great fun, decent graphics

Cons: Feels too short, impossible campiagn editor, random missions are the same

Overall: The finest WWII RTS out there, but it needs more missions, and an easier campaign editor!
